Report Fraud

Rentilly exists because rental and property-sale fraud is common in Nigeria. If something feels wrong, report it — even if you are not sure.

Never pay rent, caution fees or inspection fees outside the Rentilly app. Escrow protection only covers money paid through the platform.

Red flags

  • Anyone asking you to pay rent, inspection or agency fees outside the Rentilly app.
  • A landlord or 'agent' refusing to complete KYP verification.
  • Listings with photos copied from other sites, or a price far below the market.
  • Pressure to pay immediately to 'hold' a property.
  • Requests for your BVN, NIN, card PIN, OTP or app password.
  • WhatsApp accounts claiming to be Rentilly staff.

How to report

  1. 1

    Stop the payment

Do not send any money. If you have already paid inside the app, open the transaction and tap Raise a Dispute — this freezes the escrow balance immediately.

  2. 2

    Report in the app

Profile → Help & Support → Report Fraud. Attach screenshots, chat logs, account numbers and the listing reference. In-app reports are verified against your account, so they are actioned fastest.

  3. 3

    Emergency channels

If you cannot access the app, email info@myrentilly.com. The fraud desk is monitored 24/7, including public holidays.

  4. 4

    What we do next

We acknowledge within 2 hours, freeze affected funds and accounts, and issue a written outcome within 7 business days. Confirmed fraud leads to a permanent blacklist entry against the BVN, NIN, device and bank account.

  5. 5

    Escalation to authorities

Serious cases are reported to the EFCC and the Nigeria Police Force, and suspicious transactions are filed with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022.
